LP Design
This 12” LP design is for a compilation of ‘Selected Works’ from 20th century composer Conlon Nancarrow. Important in the history of avant-garde and electronic music, he has been influential to figures from György Ligeti to Frank Zappa.
Nancarrow's innovation was to compose music for the 'player-piano', an automated instrument which can play notes more complex and faster than any human fingers could. In my design I incorporated his actual musical notation as it would appear on a ‘piano roll’: paper with punched holes which the piano translates into music. When the LP's inner-sleeve is inserted, the notes reveal themselves as if being played.
