Book Project
Andrea Alciato, a Renaissance jurist and writer, is most known today for inventing the genre of Emblem Books (short moral poems accompanied by illustrations). I wanted to own a copy of the first emblem book which started it all, and looking online I found a university website from the 1990s hosting all 212 pages in English translation.
Using assets from this site, I made my own copy. Drawn to the retro appeal of the low quality 90s GIF versions of the emblems, I designed the book to visually sit between a modern esoteric art zine and a classic professionally published edition.
